EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!!! Why have competition when you can collaborate? Collaborations happen to be fashions most popular marketing tactic that only seems to be going up. What are collaborations? Collaborations happen when two companies decide to work together to create a product. Most times collaborations happen between to companies that generally do not make the same product. These collaborations create something special that tends to last. The hype around the collaborations gives both companies more exposure as they are marketing to both target markets. For example, Disney collaborated with Kith NYC in 2019 and created an entire line of clothing and shoes. This was created to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Disney icon Mickey Mouse.

A few other recent collaborations that have happened in the fashion industry has been the Ivy Park x Adidas line that was released and the Virgil Abloh Off-White x Nike collaboration that is coming out on Feb 15th. One thing we do notice about collaborations, other than hype, is that collaborations tend to be more expensive as two brands are coming together. These products also sell out and have an even higher resell value. Let me help paint this picture. The Ivy Park line has recently sold out and is now reselling for $20 - $30 more than it came out. The Off-White shoes have yet to come out but are already reselling for up to $1300 varying on size and are released for $225. This type of buzz gives customers more incentive to try and purchase products at retail price causing shoes/clothing to sell out within seconds. My advice to anyone ever trying to purchase a collaboration piece is, GOOD LUCK!
